What we do at
Shalev Therapy
We provide psychotherapy for a wide range of addictive behaviors — for those struggling and for their loved ones — helping you find your way back to a joyful and fulfilling life.
You are not your addiction. We’ll personalize treatment to your needs, helping you build the life you want.
Our services
Individual
therapy
Individual therapy sessions can be helpful for anyone struggling with addiction (or their loved ones) to process what they’re going through and create an individualized plan of action.
-
Our primary modalities include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP), all within a harm reduction framework. Learn more about these modalities on our About page.
-
We start with an assessment to determine your personalized treatment plan. In many cases, we are able to take a short-term approach to treatment (3-6 months), helping you on your path to recovery. Sessions are generally weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your needs.
Group
therapy
Group therapy sessions can be so helpful in gaining (and giving) support from people going through similar challenges. We’ll be adding group sessions in the near future.
-
We use Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) therapy groups to empower family members and friends of individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Participants learn practical skills to encourage their loved ones to seek treatment and reduce their own stress. By focusing on the well-being of both the individual and their family, our CRAFT therapy groups promote healthier dynamics and support recovery.
-
Our Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) group is designed to support individuals in recovery from substance use disorders by integrating mindfulness practices with relapse prevention strategies. By fostering a supportive and collaborative group environment, our MBRP program empowers participants to make healthier choices and sustain long-term recovery.

Recovery is a process that can look very different for different people. We generally take a short-term approach to treatment, with typical treatment plans in the 3-6 month range. That doesn’t mean you will be “cured” of your addictive behaviors in that time — our goal isn’t to “cure,” but to help you find the path toward a meaningful and fulfilling life that works best for you.
-
Occasionally, it will be beneficial for family members to join you in session, but for the most part your sessions will be focused on you as an individual. We do offer group therapy sessions for family members and friends of individuals struggling with addiction, which can be incredibly beneficial in creating the systems to help everyone involved achieve the life they want.

For many years, the standard approach to addiction was that it was a life sentence. We now know that's not the case. With the right support and treatment approaches, many people who have struggled with a wide range of addictions are able to build meaningful and productive lives, without addiction being the primary feature of their identity.
With that said, recovery looks different for every person, and may be more of a long-term struggle for some than for others. We'll work together to define what recovery may look like for you — and help you get on the path toward that.

For individual therapy, we focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) through a harm-reduction lens. For group therapy we focus on MBRP and on Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) for family members and friends.
